Glocal held its fifth Annual Event on March 31st, with over 200 people in attendance. Participants included: current students, prospective students, students from sister programs across Hebrew University, alumni, staff, community members, organizational partners, participants in MASHAV, development practitioners, and Glocal family, friends, and donors. In particular we would like to thank our honored guests, Hebrew University Rector Professor Asher Cohen, and Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences, Professor Vered Vinitzky-Serrousi.
This year's event featured keynote speaker Professor John Barry of Queen's University, Belfast, who spoke on the Green movement in his talk "Transition to Sustainability in the 21st Century: Why the Future's Bright?" The audience also enjoyed polished, 3-minute, student "pitches" of their internship experiences from around the globe, a photo exhibit showcasing images and stories from the field, and round-tables where students and practitioners discussed and debated some of the enduring topics of concern in the world development such as evaluation, technology and education in an unstable, globalizing world. The event also honored Professor Avner de-Shalit's service to the program as academic head as he passes the torch to Professor Guy Harpaz. Finally, we celebrated the induction of cohort 5 into our alumni network.
