MATAL Assessment in Hebrew & Arabic
What is the MATAL Assessment?
MATAL is a computerized system of tests and questionnaires designed for prospective and current university students seeking exam accommodations and academic support due to learning disabilities or ADHD. This nationally standardized diagnostic system is recognized by all universities and academic institutions in Israel. In most institutions, the MATAL assessment is valid for five years. Based on the results, exam accommodations and support services may be granted.
Who is Eligible for the Assessment?
The MATAL assessment is intended for individuals who meet all of the following criteria:

Ages 17–35

Higher education applicants or current university students

Individuals who have been previously diagnosed with a learning disability or ADHD, or those who experience significant difficulties in one or more of the following areas:

Reading, writing, other language functions, mathematics, attention, and concentration

Individuals who do not have physical impairments that could interfere with test performance (i.e., severe visual or hearing impairments, motor difficulties)

Native Hebrew or Arabic speakers

Assessment Process
The MATAL assessment consists of three sessions:

Two testing sessions (each lasting approximately two hours) for completing the MATAL exams
-
A personal consultation session with a diagnostic specialist to review the test results and discuss the implications
Total duration of the assessment process is approximately 1.5 months from the first session until the final diagnostic report is received. Early registration is therefore strongly recommended, preferably before the academic year begins.

Applicants must provide the following:

School transcripts, including certificates from grades 1, 6, 9, and 11

Bagrut (matriculation) certificate or an up-to-date transcript of Bagrut exam scores

Updated transcript of grades

Previous diagnostic assessment reports

Psychometric exam score report

Proof of eligibility for exam accommodations (i.e., Bagrut or Psychometric Exam accommodation approvals)

Additional relevant documents (i.e., assessment or therapy referrals, teacher or therapist evaluations, treatment summaries)
Important: Documents will not be returned. Applicants should submit clear copies and retain the originals.

Before making any payments, students must contact the unit by phone or email and receive approval for the assessment.

To schedule an assessment, students must first submit an online request to the administrative office.

Assessment dates will be assigned only after all required documents are submitted and the 95 NIS processing fee is paid.

Attention Assessment
Who is eligible?
-
Hebrew University students who have completed a MATAL assessment, in which suspected ADHD symptoms were identified.
Assessment Process:

Assessments take place at the Learning Disabilities Unit on Mount Scopus or at the Faculty of Agriculture, Food, and Environment in Rehovot.
External Diagnosis Review (Non-MATAL Assessments)
An assessment that is not a MATAL assessment requires a review process.
Important: You must schedule a consultation meeting with the unit before undergoing an assessment.
Who Can Submit an External Diagnosis for Review?
The review process is intended for:

Hebrew University students or applicants with a valid didactic or psycho-didactic diagnosis (neurological assessments are not accepted).

The assessment must have been conducted in the last five years, and after age 18
Review Process

The unit analyzes the assessment, reviewing tasks, tools, and findings against the university’s Learning Disabilities Unit criteria.

Leniency with spelling errors

25% extra time on exams

Writing Assessment
Who is Eligible?
Hebrew University students with difficulties limited to writing are eligible to request a writing assessment.
Assessment Process

Referrals are made exclusively by the Learning Disabilities Unit, following a consultation meeting.
Request for Assessment Subsidy
Hebrew University students may apply for a subsidy from the Dean of Students Office.
Application Steps:

Go to the Dean of Students page → "Inquiries & Complaints" → "Dean’s Office Requests"

Appeals Committee – Exam Accommodations

Appeals must be submitted by students via email to liatza@savion.huji.ac.il.

Students may submit an appeal in writing within 30 days of receiving the accommodation decision.

A response will be provided within 15 days from the submission date.
