Who Qualifies?
Students whose parents did not graduate from Israel’s higher education system are considered first-generation students. Recognizing the unique challenges they face, Hebrew University offers specialized programs designed to support, mentor, and empower these students throughout their academic journey.
Support Programs for First-Generation Students
The "First in Academia" program provides tailored support for motivated students who demonstrate the motivation, determination, and desire to excel academically despite lacking a family background in higher education. The program aims to help these students maximize their academic potential throughout their undergraduate studies.
This program is designed for first-year undergraduate students in Engineering, Computer Science, Psychology, Mathematics, Law, Brain Science and Cognition, and Honors Programs (Philosophy, Political Science and Economics-PPE & Amirim).
Participants receive:
- A scholarship for the duration of their degree.
- One-on-one mentorship and academic/social guidance from trained student mentors and faculty mentors.
- Group meetings designed to accompany their academic journey, strengthen personal identity, and foster empowerment.
