Two-dimensional (2D) halide perovskites exhibit excellent potential for optoelectronics because of their outstanding physical properties and structural diversity. White-light emission is one property of 2D perovskites that originates from self-trapped excitons (STE) in the highly distorted structures. The so-called (110)-oriented 2D perovskites are generally distorted and believed to be good candidates for white-light emitting devices. Here, we report (110)-oriented 2D perovskites, C4N2H12PbX4 (X = I, Br, Cl), templated by the small cyclic diammonium cation, 3-aminopyrrolidinium (3APr). Structural characterization by single-crystal X-ray diffraction reveals that the distortion of the inorganic part of the structures is influenced by the stereochemical conformation of the cation between the perovskite layers. The experimental bandgaps follow the trend I < Br < Cl (2.56 eV, 3.29 eV, 3.85 eV, respectively). Density functional theory calculations reveal a weak but significant electronic band dispersion along the stacking axis, suggesting a non-negligible interlayer electronic coupling caused by the short proximity of adjacent inorganic layers. The high level of distortion results in the emergence of white-light emission, rarely seen in iodide perovskites, as well as the bromide and chloride isostructural analogues, which provides perfect platform to compare the broad emission mechanism for all three halides. The bromide and chloride perovskites show longer lifetimes and higher color rendering index (CRI) (83 and 85), relevant to solid-state lighting. Temperature-dependent PL measurements confirm that the broad emission comes from different STE mechanism for different halides, with the peak broadening persisting even at low temperature for the chloride compound.

The stability of lipids in meat products depends on the initial concentration of hydroperoxides, the catalytic involvement of metal ions and myoglobin, endogenous antioxidants, and biological and technological factors. Ground meat was treated with additives, sealed in vacuum bags, heated to 75 °C, and stored opened to air at 4 °C. S-Nitroso-N-acetylcysteine (NAC-SNO) at concentration like nitrite used by the industry prevents lipid peroxidation in the product, even after storage for 1 month at 4 °C. The same simulated treatments at different concentrations of both compounds show that NAC-SNO acts as an antioxidant ∼4-fold better than nitrite at pH 6.2 or 3.0. Ascorbic acid significantly improves nitrite antioxidant effect. NAC-SNO was found to prevent, much better than nitrite, accumulation of reactive aldehydes and hydroxynonenal protein modification. In condition like those used by the industry for meat products processing, NAC-SNO acts better than nitrite to provide antioxidant protection without the side effect of N-nitrosation, oxidation, and the loss of nutrient generated by nitrite. © 2019 American Chemical Society.

Vast changes to the status of marriage in modern society have impacted the demo-

graphic makeup of many countries. Particularly in the Western world, a growing

portion of the population comprises of singles that may be separated, divorced,

widowed, or never married. Faced with this change, it is crucial for researchers and

policymakers to understand the mechanisms behind the well-being of the unmarried.

This paper explores the relationship between social capital and happiness for different

types of marital groups. By performing a multilevel analysis on data from 32 countries,

this research demonstrates not only that singles present higher social capital which is

positively correlated with higher happiness, but also derive greater happiness from

equal levels of social capital. Furthermore, this paper explores potential consequences

for further research in social capital, happiness, and marital status.

הביטוח הלאומי מממן את תשלומי הגמלאות על ידי גביית דמי ביטוח. כ-000,300 איש מדי שנה אינם משלמים בזמן את דמי הביטוח הלאומי, ויוצרים פער חוב שנתי בסכום של כ-430 מיליוני ש"ח. צמצום פער החוב כרוך בתהליך גבייה מורכב, הדורש מיפוי של אוכלוסיית החייבים וניתוחה ויכולת איתור חייבים בעייתיים. במחקר זה ביקשנו לתת מענה לצורך זה בשתי דרכים: )1 )בחינת השפעתם של מאפיינים אישיים דמוגרפיים, חברתיים וכלכליים על נטייתו של מבוטח לא לשלם דמי ביטוח לאומי; )2 )בניית פרופילים של טיפוסים שנטייתם לא לשלם חמורה. עד כה נעשו מחקרים כאלה בעיקר על חייבים במס הכנסה. מחקר זה מבוסס על נתונים מנהליים מהמוסד לביטוח לאומי, הכוללים מידע שוטף, מעודכן אחת לחודש, פרטני ומקיף אודות כל האוכלוסייה בישראל. בדומה לממצאי מחקרים שבחנו אי-תשלום מיסים, העלו ממצאי מחקר זה שהמאפיינים האישיים – מגדר, גיל, מעמד עבודה, רמת הכנסה וקבוצת מיעוט – משפיעים על הנטייה לא לשלם דמי ביטוח לאומי. נמצא גם קשר חזק בין נישואין להסתברות לאי-תשלום. ממצאי הפרופיילינג העלו שמבוטחים בני המגזר הערבי, לא נשואים, מחוסרי עבודה ונטולי הכנסה נוטים יותר מכל האחרים לא לשלם דמי ביטוח. למיטב ידיעתנו, זהו מחקר הפרופיילינג הראשון בעולם העוסק באי-תשלום דמי ביטוח לאומי. על בסיסו יוכלו רשויות גבייה בארץ ובעולם לתכנן פעולות גבייה ייעודיות לקבוצות החייבים.

SummarySocial workers and students in a large teaching hospital explored the characteristics of psychosocial interventions during acts of political violence. The associations between hospital length of stay, Acute Stress Reaction, and the characteristics of the implemented psychosocial interventions were also examined. One hundred and forty patients (61.4% males) treated during the so-called stabbing intifada/uprising in the years 2014?2015 in Israel in one large hospital were included. Data collection was based on clinical data mining.FindingsThe most frequent patient interventions were trauma-focused, while the most frequent family interventions were needs assessment and support-system building. Most of the interventions with the family (but not with the patient) were associated with longer hospital stays. Greater severity of Acute Stress Reaction was associated with greater use of trauma-focused interventions with the patient (but not with the family).ApplicationsThe findings suggest that social workers hold implicit trauma-focused intervention theories that should be written up in order to develop practice-based intervention models in the context of political violence.

We present a complementary resource for trait fine-mapping in tomato to those based on the intra-specific cross between cultivated tomato and the wild tomato species Solanum pennellii, which have been extensively used for quantitative genetics in tomato over the last 20 years. The current population of backcross inbred lines (BILs) is composed of 107 lines derived after three backcrosses of progeny of the wild species Solanum neorickii (LA2133) and cultivated tomato (cultivar TA209) and is freely available to the scientific community. These S. neorickii BILs were genotyped using the 10K SolCAP single nucleotide polymorphism chip, and 3111 polymorphic markers were used to map recombination break points relative to the physical map of Solanum lycopersicum. The BILs harbor on average 4.3 introgressions per line, with a mean introgression length of 34.7 Mbp, allowing partitioning of the genome into 340 bins and thereby facilitating rapid trait mapping. We demonstrate the power of using this resource in comparison with archival data from the S. pennellii resources by carrying out metabolic quantitative trait locus analysis following gas chromatography–mass spectrometry on fruits harvested from the S. neorickii BILs. The metabolic candidate genes phenylalanine ammonia-lyase and cystathionine gamma-lyase were then tested and validated in F 2 populations and via agroinfiltration-based overexpression in order to exemplify the fidelity of this method in identifying the genes that drive tomato metabolic phenotypes. © 2018 The Authors. The aim of this study was to analyze the expression, biological role and clinical relevance of cancer stem cell markers in high-grade serous carcinoma (HGSC).\\ mRNA expression by qRT-PCR of NANOG, OCT4, SOX2, SOX4, SOX9, LIN28A and LIN28B was analyzed in 134 HGSC specimens (84 effusions, 50 surgical specimens). Nanog, OCT3/4, SOX2 and SOX9 protein expression by immunohistochemistry was analyzed in 52 HGSC effusions. Nanog protein expression in exosomes from 80 HGSC effusions was studied by Western Blotting. OVCAR3 cells underwent CRISPR/Cas9 Nanog knockout (KO), and the effect of Nanog KO on migration, invasion, proliferation and proteolytic activity was analyzed in OVCAR3 and OVCAR8 cells.\\ OCT4 mRNA was overexpressed in effusions compared to solid specimens (p = 0.046), whereas SOX9 was overexpressed in the ovarian tumors compared to effusions and solid metastases (p = 0.003). Higher SOX2 and SOX9 expression was associated with primary (intrinsic) chemoresistance (p = 0.009 and p = 0.02, respectively). Higher SOX9 levels were associated with shorter overall survival in univariate (p = 0.04) and multivariate (p = 0.049) analysis. OCT3/4, SOX2 and SOX9 proteins were found in HGSC cells, whereas Nanog was detected only in exosomes. Higher SOX2 protein expression was associated with shorter overall survival in univariate analysis (p = 0.049). OVCAR cells exposed to OVCAR3 NANOG KO exosomes had reduced migration, invasion and MMP9 activity.\\ SOX2 and SOX9 mRNA levels in HGSC effusions may be markers of clinically aggressive disease. Nanog is secreted in HGSC exosomes in effusions and modulates tumor-promoting cellular processes in vitro.
