This work studies the value of two-person zero-sum repeated games in which at least one of the players is restricted to (mixtures of) bounded recall strategies. A (pure) k-recall strategy is a strategy that relies only on the last k periods of history. This work improves previous results [Lehrer, Neyman and Okada] on repeated games with bounded recall. We provide an explicit formula for the asymptotic value of the repeated game as a function of the stage game, the duration of the repeated game, and the recall of the agents.

Structural comparison between analogous films made of organosilica and unmodified SiO2 shows that the origin of the pronounced stable activity of the ORMOSIL film lies in high hydrophobic and also in the pronounced low degree of hydrophilicity. A H2O-in-oil microemulsion was further dispersed in an aq. phase contg. Pluronic F127 as a steric stabilizer, to form a specific type of double emulsion termed emulsified microemulsion (EME). The inner microemulsion phase was made from glycerol-monooleate (GMO), R(+)-limonene, EtOH and glycerol. SAXS (small x-ray scattering), PGSE-NMR (pulse gradient spin echo-NMR), elec. cond., and cryo-TEM (cryogenic-TEM) imaging techniques were used to confirm the existence of inner W/O nano-droplets after 2nd emulsification step and upon EME aging. Spherical globules of EME without long-range internal order were obsd. by the SAXS measurements and the cryo-TEM images. The av. globule size of ∼200-300 nm remained intact for at least 6 mo. Analysis of extreme hydrometeorological events is important for characterizing and better understanding the meteorological conditions that can generate severe rainstorms and the consequent catastrophic flooding. According to several studies (e.g., Alpert et al., 2004; Wittenberg et al., 2007), the occurrence of such extreme events is increasing over the eastern Mediterranean although total rain amounts are generally decreasing. The current study presents an analysis of an extreme event utilizing different methodologies: (a) synoptic maps and high resolution satellite imagery for atmospheric condition analysis; (b) rainfall analysis by rain gauges data; (c) meteorological radar rainfall calibration and analysis; (d) field measurements for estimating maximum peak discharges; and, (e) high resolution aerial photographs together with field surveying for quantifying the geomorphic impacts. The unusual storm occurred over Israel between 30 March and 2 April, 2006. Heavy rainfall produced more than 100mm in some locations in only few hours and more than 200mm in the major core area. Extreme rain intensities with recurrence intervals of more than 100 years were found for durations of 1 h and more as well as for the daily rain depth values. In the most severely affected area,Wadi Ara, extreme flash floods caused damages and casualties. Specific peak discharges were as high as 10–30m3/s/km2 for catchments of the size of 1–10 km2, values larger than any recorded floods in similar climatic regions in Israel.

The authors on the solubilization patterns of two of these nutraceuticals (lycopene and phtosteols) which are practically insol. in water but which have been solubilized in the QL (glycerol monooleate (GMO) + ethanol + water) mesophases. The scientific value of these results is threefold. The QL phase has the capability and capacity to solubilize guest mols. of different natures. An anal. method was developed to detect at what concn. levels the guest mols. contribute to the inner order and symmetry of the mesophase, and at what concn. levels they destroy the inner symmetry and cause phase transformations. Cyclic ureas have interesting pharmacological properties that have led to their use as analogs of bioactive compounds. Several synthetic routes for urea formation by cyclization of diamines are known, based on the nucleophilic reaction of the amines with phosgene or phosgene derivatives. We have developed a procedure for a triphosgene mediated, on-resin urea cyclization. Four novel urea macrocyclic molecules were synthesized in order to demonstrate the feasibility of this method.

We present a method of generating collective multiqubit entanglement via global addressing of an ion chain performing blue and red Tavis-Cummings interactions, where several qubits are coupled to a collective motional mode. We show that a wide family of Dicke states and irradiant states can be generated by single global laser pulses, unitarily or helped with suitable postselection techniques.

We studied the optical gain characteristics of CdSe/ZnS core/shell colloidal quantum rods, investigated their temperature dependence, and compared the gain properties with quantum dots (QD). The gain was measured systematically for close-packed films of rods and dots under quasi-CW nanosecond optical pumping, using the variable stripe length method measuring the amplified spontaneous emission (ASE). Tunable ASE can be achieved by changing the rod diameter. Optical gain factors of up to 350 cm-1 at a temperature range of 10−120 K were measured for quantum rods. Above 120 K, the gain decreased sharply, but by increasing the pump power, ASE was easily achieved also at room temperature. The temperature dependence was assigned to the Auger heating process and phonon assisted thermal relaxation. QD of similar diameters as the rods showed much smaller gain values (∼50 cm-1) and a sharp decrease in gain at lowered temperatures (∼50 K), and ASE could not be detected at room temperature even at high pump powers. The significantly improved gain values in quantum rods as compared with dots were attributed to the slower Auger relaxation rates, the higher absorption cross-section, and the reduced self-absorption due to the larger Stokes shift. The temperature dependence of the threshold power for the quantum rods, used to characterize the thermal insensitivity of the system, showed two distinct temperature regions. In the low-temperature region, a very high T0 value of 3500 K was measured, as predicted for a low-dimensional quantum confined system.
