ספר זה יוצאים לאור לראשונה, מתוך כתבי יד רבים מן הגניזה הקהירית, פיוטיו של אחד הפייטנים החשובים: ר' פינחס הכהן בירבי יעקב, שפעל בארץ ישראל (באזור טבריה) בסביבות אמצע המאה השמינית. ר' פינחס חותם את התקופה הקלסית של הפיוט הארץ ישראלי הקדום. יצירתו משמרת את מגוון הסוגים הגדול המאפיין את הפיוט הקלסי, ועם זאת אפשר לראות בה כיוונים ראשונים של תהליכים חדשים אשר יאפיינו את תקופת הפייטנות המזרחית המאוחרת. פיוטי ר' פינחס מעידים על משורר גדול, בעל אורך נשימה קומפוזיציוני מרשים. בכמה מהם הוא הגיע לשיאים מיוחדים, בעיקר בפיתוחים דרמתיים מעוצמים.
הפיוטים הבאים בספר מלווים בשינויי נוסחאות ובביאור מפורט. למהדורת השירים נוסף מבוא מקיף, הדן בפייטן עצמו וביצירתו. מתבררות בו שאלות ייחוסו וייעודו של כל פיוט, תבניות הפיוטים, מהלכיהם הספרותיים ולשונם, וכן תוכניהם, מקורותיהם הספרותיים ומנהגים קדומים הנלמדים מתוכם. תוך כדי דיון עולות מילים עבריות שלא נרשמו עד כה, נחשפים מדרשים שנשכחו ברבות השנים ומתגלות מסורות הלכה ארץ ישראליות אותנטיות. לציון מיוחד ראויים פרטים על חשבון הלוח העברי ומנהגי תענית קדומים העולים מן הפיוטים. אך מעבר לכל אלה, כינוס פיוטי ר' פינחס הכהן משיב אל חיק הספרות העברית את אחד המשוררים הגדולים שעמדו לעם ישראל, ואפשר מעתה לשוב וליהנות מיצירתו העשירה.
הספר מתוך הסדרה מאפשר היכרות עמוקה עם שירת החול העברית שנכתבה בספרד בימי הביניים, ומקנה כלים לניתוח שירה זו. לאחר הצגת הרקע ההיסטורי והחברתי, מוצגים הסוגים העיקריים של שירת החול, בשילוב דוגמאות רבות המלוות בניתוחים ספרותיים. כמו כן נסקרים בפירוט האמצעים הרטוריים המרכזיים ששימשו בשירה העברית בספרד.
The article is a historiographical against-the-grain reading of archetypal constructions of Virginia Woolf’s “madness.” A genealogical tracing of Woolf’s own testimonials concerning her mental life is juxtaposed with the interpretive analytic specularization of her primary biographers. This new lens exposes the normative reading practices that have produced, simultaneously, both the problematic of Woolf’s “madness” and a near elision of any traces of the conditions of its own production. Woolf’s writing about her “contrary instincts” is examined without searching for underlying pathology; the latter would have amounted to reinscribing Woolf in the institualization of “mental illness.”

The small-bias conductance of the C-6 molecule, stretched between two metallic leads, is studied using time-dependent density functional theory within the adiabatic local density approximation. The leads are modeled by jellium slabs, the electronic density and the current density are described on a grid, whereas the core electrons and the highly oscillating valence orbitals are approximated using standard norm-conserving pseudopotentials. The jellium leads are supplemented by a complex absorbing potential that serves to absorb charge reaching the edge of the electrodes and hence mimic irreversible flow into the macroscopic metal. The system is rapidly exposed to a ramp potential directed along the C-6 axis, which gives rise to the onset of charge and current oscillations. As time progresses, a fast redistribution of the molecular charge is observed, which translates into a direct current response. Accompanying the dc signal, alternating current fluctuations of charge and currents within the molecule and the metallic leads are observed. These form the complex impedance of the molecule and are especially strong at the plasmon frequency of the leads and the lowest excitation peak of C-6. We study the molecular conductance in two limits: the strong coupling limit, where the edge atoms of the chain are submerged in the jellium and the weak coupling case, where the carbon atoms and the leads do not overlap spatially. Hutchinson-Gilford progeria syndrome (HGPS) is a premature aging disorder, commonly caused by a point mutation in the lamin A gene that results in a protein lacking 50 aa near the C terminus, denoted LADelta50. Here we show by light and electron microscopy that HGPS is associated with significant changes in nuclear shape, including lobulation of the nuclear envelope, thickening of the nuclear lamina, loss of peripheral heterochromatin, and clustering of nuclear pores. These structural defects worsen as HGPS cells age in culture, and their severity correlates with an apparent increase in LADelta50. Introduction of LADelta50 into normal cells by transfection or protein injection induces the same changes. We hypothesize that these alterations in nuclear structure are due to a concentration-dependent dominant-negative effect of LADelta50, leading to the disruption of lamin-related functions ranging from the maintenance of nuclear shape to regulation of gene expression and DNA replication.
