Short Bio: I earned my MD and DSc (=PhD) from the Technion, Haifa, Israel in 1984 and then have done two post-doctorate fellowships: first at the Hebrew University Jerusalem (1984-1987 under Moshe Abeles), and then at the Johns Hopkins Medical School, Baltimore, USA (1987-1990 under Mahlon DeLong).    In 1990, I started my own research group in the Department of Physiology (Neurobiology) of the Hebrew University – Hadassah Medical School. I was appointed the Simone and Bernard Guttman Chair in Brain Research in 2003 and became a full professor at the Hebrew University in 2004. I was one of the founding members of the Hebrew University's Interdisciplinary Center for Computational Neuroscience (ICNC) as well as the Edmond and Lily Safra Center for Brain Research (ELSC) and remain active in both centers. Since 2004 and Israeli national health coverage for patients undergoing deep brain stimulation (DBS) surgery for advanced movement disorders. I have published more than 100 peer-reviewed manuscripts that have been cited more than 7000 times. I was the President of the International Basal Ganglia Society (IBAGS) from 2010 to 2013, and organized the IBAGS XI Conference in Eilat, Israel in March 2013. I have received several awards and prizes, including the Baruch Rapport prize for excellence in bio-medical research in 2013 and a European Research council (ERC) advanced grant in 2012.
