Descriptive, historical and typological linguistics; language variation and change; contact linguistics; Egyptian-Coptic linguistics and philology; Nilotic languages (Nuer); Austronesian (mainly Malayic) languages.
Current Projects:
The grammaticalization of future constructions; affixation; the typology of adposition borrowing; case systems and information structure; the role of presuppositions in semantic change; fieldwork on Nuer (Nilo-Saharan) and on Minangkabau (Austronesian).
