In light of the growing unmarried demographic, this study analyzed the extent and determinants of sexual satisfaction among seven relationship-status groups: married, never married, and those who are divorced/separated, where the latter two groups are further divided into single, living apart together (LAT), and cohabiting. In addition, the study measured the levels of sexual self-esteem, sexual communication, and sex frequency for the different relationship-status groups as predictors of sexual satisfaction. Finally, this study also analyzed sexual satisfaction while accounting for overall life satisfaction. Using the ninth wave of the Pairfam data set and analyzing the responses of 3,207 respondents in total, this study suggests that marriage is not a determinant for sexual satisfaction. In fact, it can even be a negative correlate when married respondents are compared to certain unmarried groups. The only exception is that of unmarried individuals who currently have no partner. Even this situation is shown to be dependent only on less frequent intercourse, not on a lack of sexual self-esteem and sexual communication. These conclusions challenge previous research as well as the explanations of earlier scholars. Several directions for future research are discussed in light of these findings.

“Does The Endocannabinoid Anandamide Affect Bacterial Quorum Sensing, Vitality, And Motility?”. Cannabis And Cannabinoid Research, 4, 2, Pp. 102-109. doi:10.1089/can.2018.0055.
Publisher's Version Introduction: The endocannabinoid anandamide (AEA) is a neurotransmitter produced and released "on demand." Numerous studies have been conducted on AEA and on the endocannabinoid system (ECS), but none of them have investigated their effect on prokaryotes. Quorum sensing (QS) is a process of bacteria-bacteria communication. In this cross-Talk, the bacteria secrete and recognize signal molecules termed autoinducers (AIs). It has been shown that the QS system regulates expression of many physiological and virulence factors of bacteria. Materials and Methods: QS was measured using the bioluminescence property of the bacterium Vibrio harveyi. The effect of AEA on QS-related gene expression was measured using real-Time polymerase chain reaction. 0.18% agar plates were used for surface movement assay. Results: No dose response of AEA could be determined up to 100 μg/mL on bacterial growth either wild-Type (WT) V. harveyi or mutant strains. However on addition of AEA, QS was reduced significantly for WT and other V. harveyi strains mutated at different locations of the QS cascade (BB152; HAI-1 synthase mutant, BB886; Sensor-2-, BB170; Sensor-1-, MM30; AI-2). Genes related to the QS pathway, such as luxS, showed significant reduction in expression in the presence of AEA. Motility tests showed that continuous exposure to AEA reduced V. harveyi ability to spread on a soft agar surface, but pre-exposure to AEA did not have any effect on its motility. Conclusions: This study presents the first evidence that the endocannabinoid AEA affects specific functions of a prokaryotic organism (e.g., QS and motility). Our results present novel, not yet been observed biological functions of the ECS, namely as a possible line of defense against bacteria. © Copyright 2019, Mary Ann Liebert, Inc., publishers 2019.

“Doped Colloidal Inas Nanocrystals In The Single Ionized Dopant Limit”. The Journal Of Physical Chemistry C, 123, 23, Pp. 14803-14812. .
Publisher's Version תקציר We investigate the electronic properties of individual n-type (Cu) doped and p-type (Ag) doped InAs colloidal nanocrystals (NCs) in the 2–8 nm size range from their charge transfers toward a highly oriented pyrolytic graphite (HOPG) substrate, using ultrahigh vacuum Kelvin probe force microscopy (KPFM) with elementary charge sensitivity at 300 K. The NC active dopant concentration is measured as ND = 8 × 1020 cm–3 and NA > 5 × 1020 cm–3 for n- and p-type doping, respectively. The electrostatic equilibrium between the NC and the HOPG reference substrate is investigated and reveals an enhancement of the Fermi-level mismatch between the NCs and the HOPG substrate at reduced NC sizes, both for n- and p-type doping. It also shows, for n-type doped NCs with smallest sizes (∼2 nm), the existence of a full depletion regime, in which smallest NCs contain
single ionized dopants. Results are compared with self-consistent tight-binding calculations of the electronic structure of InAs NCs, including hydrogenoid impurities and the presence of a host substrate, in the case of n-type doped NCs. The observed enhancement of the NC–HOPG Fermi-level mismatch can be understood by considering a size-dependent electrostatic contribution attributed to dipolar effects at the NC–ligand interface. The estimated surface dipole density equals a few Debye/nm2 and is increased at smallest NC sizes, which follows the enhancement of ligand densities at small NC sizes previously reported for metallic or semiconducting NCs. The results put forward the role played by the NC–ligand interface electrostatics for electronic applications.

“Downregulation Of Dystrophin Expression In Pupae Of The Whitefly Bemisia Tabaci Inhibits The Emergence Of Adults”. Insect Mol Biol, 28, 5, Pp. 662-675. doi:10.1111/imb.12579.
תקציר The whitefly Bemisia tabaci is a major pest to agriculture. Adults are able to fly for long distances and to colonize staple crops, herbs and ornamentals, and to vector viruses belonging to several important taxonomic groups. During their early development, whiteflies mature from eggs through several nymphal stages (instars I to IV) until adults emerge from pupae. We aim at reducing whitefly populations by inhibiting the emergence of adults from nymphs. Here we targeted dystrophin, a conserved protein essential for the development of the muscle system in humans, other animals and insects. We have exploited the fact that whitefly nymphs developing on tomato leaves feed from the plant phloem via their stylets. Thus, we delivered dystrophin-silencing double-stranded RNA to nymphs developing on leaves of tomato plantlets with their roots bathing in the silencing solution. Downregulation of dystrophin expression occurred mainly in pupae. Dystrophin silencing induced also the downregulation of the dystrophin-associated protein genes actin and tropomyosin, and disrupted F-actin. Most significantly, the treatment inhibited the emergence of adults from pupae, suggesting that targeting dystrophin may help to restrain whitefly populations. This study demonstrates for the first time the important role of dystrophin in the development of a major insect pest to agriculture.
The isotopic composition of Thorium in marine sediment cores from east of Africa shows that Sahara dust fluxes decreased by at least 50% between the last deglaciation and the mid Holocene, while the Northern Sector of the Red Sea remained unchanged. This constrains the African Humid Period impact to have extended up to ca. 22°N, across a more limited region than previously thought.
Females and males of 7 commercial (ComCb) and 3 experimental (ExpCb) crossbreeds were produced by 6 imported parent stocks (PS) and 1 local PS. The ComCb were Dominant Red Barred (DR), Dominant Sussex (DS), Lohmann Brown (LB), Lohmann-Dual, NOVOgen Brown (NB), NOVOgen Color (NC), and local Koekoek (KK). The ExpCb were (dams × sires) DR × KK (R × K), DS × DR (S × R), and KK × DS (K × S). The females were reared to 60 wk of age, and recorded data included BW, BWG, feed intake, egg number, and egg weight, allowing the calculation of egg mass and feed conversion ratio (FCR). The males were reared to 16 wk of age and recoded data included feed intake, BW, FCR, and carcass characteristics. A total of 621 females and 516 males were tested in sex-separated trials, each with 3 replicated floor pens per crossbreed. The overall value of each crossbreed was determined by overall egg production, 60-wk BW and FCR of females, and by 16-wk BW, carcass yield, and FCR of males. The highest laying rate was exhibited by LB (68%) and NB (66%), followed by RxK and K × S (∼62%). The crossbreeds differed in feed intake and in females' FCR, with LB leading (2.74) followed by NB and S × R (3.07) then DR (3.18). In egg production, LB, followed by NB, were the best, as expected from specialized table-egg crossbreeds. The highest 16-wk BW of males and best FCR were exhibited by NC, followed by NB. In summary, LB was the best egg-producing crossbreed, but poor in meat production. Better choice for dual-purpose production would be NB, ranked second in egg production and in males' BW and FCR. NC was the best meat-producing (males and spent hens) crossbreed and the hens were second in egg-mass production. Hence, NC might be the best dual-purpose hybrid where artificial insemination is feasible and the consumers prefer large eggs and birds. “Dual-Purpose Production Of Genetically Different Chicken Crossbreeds In Ethiopia. 1. Parent Stocks' Feed Intake, Body Weight, And Reproductive Performance”. Poultry Science, 98, 8, Pp. 3119-3129. doi:10.3382/ps/pez136.
Publisher's Version תקציר A total of 6 chicken parent stocks (PS) bred by European companies, and 1 local PS, were evaluated under Ethiopian condition for their reproductive performance, to be followed by testing dual-purpose performance of their crossbreed progeny. The imported PS were Lohmann Brown (LB), Lohmann Dual (LD), NOVOgen Brown (NB), NOVOgen Color (NC), Dominant Sussex (DS), and Dominant Red Barred (DR); Koekoek (KK) was obtained locally. They were reared in replicated floor-pens from 16 to 60 wk of age, and evaluated for feed intake, body weight (BW), egg production, fertility, and hatchability. In total, 1,810 females and 261 males were distributed over 4 houses in randomized blocks design. Additionally, 3 experimental crosses, R × K (DR females × KK males), S × R (DS females × DR males), and K × S (KK females × DS males) were evaluated for fertility and hatchability. The PS differed in BW, feed intake, age of sexual maturity, egg production, fertility, and hatchability. Among females, DR and DS had the highest BW, whereas LB, NB, and NC had the lowest BW. Final mean BW of the parental meat-type males of NC and LD were the highest (5,027 and 3,660 g, respectively), whereas the other parental males ranged from 2,585 to 2,955 g. Fertility of NC and LD was low because the heavy parental males had difficulty to mate naturally their small-body female mates. However, with artificial insemination (AI), fertility of NC and LD was between 75 and 80%, similar to the other 5 PS. The fertility and hatchability of eggs laid by DR, DS, and KK hens was improved by 6.3% in the experimental crosses, where these hens were mated with genetically different males. The LD hens exhibited the highest overall laying rate (64.2%) during the study period, and with AI, hatchability of LD eggs (66.6%) was the highest, making it the best chick producer. Thus, despite its high total feed intake (but similar to DR, DS, and KK), LD (followed by DR) was the best PS in this study under floor management in Ethiopia. “Dual-Targeting Dual-Action Platinum(Iv) Platform For Enhanced Anticancer Activity And Reduced Nephrotoxicity.”. Angewandte Chemie (International Ed. In English), 58, 24, Pp. 8109–8114. doi:10.1002/anie.201903112.
תקציר A novel and highly efficient dual-targeting platform was designed to ensure targeted in vivo delivery of dual-action Pt(IV) prodrugs. The dual targeting was established by liposomal encapsulation of Pt(IV) complexes, thereby utilizing the enhanced permeability and retention (EPR) effect as the first stage of targeting to attain a high accumulation of the drug-loaded liposomes in the tumor. After the release of the Pt(IV) prodrug inside cancer cells, a second stage of targeting directed a portion of the Pt(IV) prodrugs to the mitochondria. Upon intracellular reduction, these Pt(IV) prodrugs released two bioactive molecules, acting both on the mitochondrial and on the nuclear DNA. Our Pt(IV) system showed excellent activity in vitro and in vivo, characterized by a cytotoxicity in a low micromolar range and complete tumor remission, respectively. Notably, marked in vivo activity was accompanied by reduced kidney toxicity, highlighting the unique therapeutic potential of our novel dual-targeting dual-action platform.
