Rafael grew up in New Jersey, USA and made aliyah after graduating high school. After completing his IDF service he began his undergraduate studies in the combined chemistry and biology program in Hebrew U. He has a particular passion for organic chemistry, which drew him to the research conducted in Professor Masarwa's lab, where he currently works assisting in synthetic organic chemistry, specifically organoboron chemistry.
