Remuneration for Conducting Research

A Remuneration for Conducting Research  to a researcher salary is possible for externally funded research grants that he / she manages.

A remuneration will be given based on the Regulations for the Payment of Research Supplements as laid down by the Planning and Budgeting Committee of the Council for Higher Education.

 

Types of Remunerations:

•   Remuneration for Conducting Research "A" can be up to 50% addition to the salary when the funding agency allows for payment of salary to the Principal Investigator

•  Remuneration for Conducting Research "B" is funded by the University - up to 25% addition to the salary, where the funding agency does not allow for payment of a salary to the Principal Investigator)

•   Remuneration for Conducting Research "A" or "B" - 5% addition to the salary for multiple studies (two studies with at least USD$ 10,000 annually, each)

The total remuneration (A and B) shall not exceed 55% together (with maximum 30% "B" and maximum 55% "A")

 

Grants entitled for Remuneration for Conducting Research include:

• Grants that are awarded for research (not scholarships, prizes, books, conferences, surveys, etc.).

• A research grant from an external source (no internal grants, no grants funded by subsidiaries - Yissum*).

• Grants backed by an annual budget in USD according to categories that were updated periodically until 10/2020 (see here the table of categories)

* Research grants funded by commercial entities signed through Yissum Co. (only the budgetary part transferred to the Authority for Research and Development qualifies for Remuneration for Conducting Research "A", subject to the terms of the agreement).

 

Researchers eligible for Remuneration for Conducting Research include:

• Principal investigator

• Researcher employed in a full-time position (pensioners are not entitled to Remuneration for Conducting Research*)

• Researchers on the regular or parallel track or the Absorption of Immigrant Scientists Program

* A principal investigator who is a pensioner, where the budget qualifies for Remuneration for Conducting Research "A", may be employed in research (budget item of junior academic staff) by virtue of a procedure determined by a decision of the University administration on this matter. In the first three months after retirement, the researcher may not be employed in research.

 

Temporary ineligibility / eligibility

  • A researcher on sabbatical and unpaid leave is not entitled to Remuneration for Conducting Research
  • A researcher on “exemption from teaching leave” is entitled to Remuneration for Conducting Research
  • Remuneration for Conducting Research "B" will not be given to more than three researchers serving as Principal Investigators in the same funded project.
