To promote creating a work environment on the Hebrew University campuses that is as safe as possible, and that will not harm the physical or mental health of campus workers, students or guests.

To ensure that Department staff will be comprised of workers committed to the central objectives of the Department and to University policies and values
To provide professional services on a high level to University units and research groups by understanding their specific needs.
To provide services in the fields of safety and hygiene which will be fully integrated with diverse University activities, especially with the work of research groups.
To produce and preserve a supportive work environment in which the full potential of each and every Department worker is expressed, while emphasizing teamwork, drawing conclusions and constant improvement.
To work towards advancing awareness of safety and hygiene issues in the University so that it will be an integral part of the organizational culture of the University worker and student communities.

Safety policy

Safety and Occupational Health Policy of the Hebrew University

The University is committed to upholding the requirements of all laws, regulations, guidelines and rules related to maintaining safety and occupational health.
The University will conduct work, research and teaching processes that will not harm the safety or health of its workers.
The University will invest the necessary resources in order to ensure a workplace that is safe and healthy for its workers, guests and the environment.
The University's approach will be based on prevention of accidents or harm to workers' health by systematically identifying risk factors, risk assessment and minimizing risks to an acceptable level.
In case of doubt regarding the existence of a safety or health risk work will not be performed until confirmed that it is possible to perform it safely.
The University Safety Department will publicize all available information regarding safety issues to the entire University staff and everyone who enters its gates by training, publishing information on its website, writing guidelines and so on…
The Safety Department will investigate every accident or near accident in order to identify the failures and reasons for the event. The Department will release the findings to relevant authorities and will take remedial actions to prevent repetition of the accidents.

Safety Committee Members

The Safety Committee serves the University, and its structure is determined by the Work Supervision Regulations (Safety Committee and Safety Trustees) – 1960.

Management representatives: Chairman of the Safety Committee, Director of the Construction and Infrastructure Branch, Director of the Safety and Hygiene Department, Committee Secretary - Coordinator of Safety Information and Training.

Unit representatives: Faculty of Natural Sciences, Faculty of Medicine, Faculty of Agriculture, Faculty of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences, workers' representatives selected by the Workers' Union: Administrative Staff (Engineer/technician/laboratory worker), senior academic staff.
