The Agricultural Sector in the Presence of Risk-Reducing Government Programs
Economic Analysis for the Case of Israel
Abstract: The agricultural sector in Israel is characterized by high levels of risk. In this paper, we develop a programming equilibrium model of Israel's vegetative agricultural sector. The model allows us to estimate the cost of risk in the sector, assess the contribution of current insurance programs, and examine how alternative insurance schemes will affect production decisions, risk levels, and social welfare.
