This review describes recent developments in the field of conductive nanomaterials and their application in 2D and 3D printed flexible electronics, with particular emphasis on inks based on metal nanoparticles and nanowires, carbon nanotubes, and graphene sheets. We present the basic properties of these nanomaterials, their stabilization in dispersions, formulation of conductive inks and formation of conductive patterns on flexible substrates (polymers, paper, textile) by using various printing technologies and post-printing processes. Applications of conductive nanomaterials for fabrication of various 2D and 3D electronic devices are also briefly discussed.

Examining these ideas through conceptual analysis on two levels, language construction and political discourse, the article reveals the layers these concepts acquired and their reception in the context of state reforms in the Ottoman Empire. While both 'democracy' and 'republic' evolved in Arabic after the French Revolution and acquired their modern morphological forms and content primarily between the 1820s and 1876, 'republic' came into use and was perceived as relevant to local circumstances earlier than 'democracy.'

Populations of Phytophthora infestans, the oomycete causal agent of potato late blight in the United States, are predominantly asexual, and isolates are characterized by clonal lineage or asexual descendants of a single genotype. Current tools for clonal lineage identification are time consuming and require laboratory equipment. We previously found that foliar spectroscopy can be used for high-accuracy pre- and postsymptomatic detection of P. infestans infections caused by clonal lineages US-08 and US-23. In this work, we found subtle but distinct differences in spectral responses of potato foliage infected by these clonal lineages in both growth-chamber time-course experiments (12- to 24-h intervals over 5 days) and naturally infected samples from commercial production fields. In both settings, we measured continuous visible to shortwave infrared reflectance (400 to 2,500 nm) on leaves using a portable spectrometer with contact probe. We consistently discriminated between infections caused by the two clonal lineages across all stages of disease progression using partial least squares (PLS) discriminant analysis, with total accuracies ranging from 88 to 98%. Three-class random forest differentiation between control, US-08, and US-23 yielded total discrimination accuracy ranging from 68 to 76%. Differences were greatest during presymptomatic infection stages and progressed toward uniformity as symptoms advanced. Using PLS-regression trait models, we found that total phenolics, sugar, and leaf mass per area were different between lineages. Shortwave infrared wavelengths (>1,100 nm) were important for clonal lineage differentiation. An appealing concept developed by economists in contemporary happiness studies is that of procedural utility: people’s tendency to value the processes that lead to outcomes in addition to the outcomes themselves. This paper identifies David Hume as an early forerunner of a very similar idea. Moreover, it demonstrates just how Hume used this idea to justify the very idea of commerce. The significance of this is twofold: demonstrating just how Hume is a forerunner of the later concept on the individual level (micro-level), but also pointing to a different approach to the concept of utility on the social level.
Contested Heritage: Jewish Cultural Property after 1945" addresses the political and cultural implications of robbery and displacement of the Jewish cultural property during the Second World War. The volume includes seventeen essays, accompanied by newly discovered archival material and illustrations, which address a wide range of topics: from the shifting meaning and character of the objects themselves, the so-called object biographies, their restitution processes after 1945, conflicting ideas about their appropriate location, political interests in their preservation, actors and networks involved in salvage operations, to questions of intellectual and cultural transfer processes revolving around the moving objects and their literary resonances. Thus, it offers a fascinating insight into lesser-known dimensions of the aftermath of the Holocaust and the history of Jews in postwar Europe.

With diabetes set to become the number 3 killer in the Western hemisphere and proportionally growing in other parts of the world, the subject of noninvasive monitoring of glucose dynamics in blood remains a “hot” topic, with the involvement of many groups worldwide. There is a plethora of techniques involved in this academic push, but the so-called multisensor system with an impedance-based core seems to feature increasingly strongly. However, the symmetrical structure of the glucose molecule and its shielding by the smaller dipoles of water would suggest that this option should be less enticing. Yet there is enough phenomenological evidence to suggest that impedance-based methods are truly sensitive to the biophysical effects of glucose variations in the blood. We have been trying to answer this very fundamental conundrum: “Why is impedance or dielectric spectroscopy sensitive to glucose concentration changes in the blood and why can this be done over a very broad frequency band, including microwaves?” The vistas for medical diagnostics are very enticing. There have been a significant number of papers published that look seriously at this problem. In this review, we want to summarize this body of research and the underlying mechanisms and propose a perspective toward utilizing the phenomena. It is our impression that the current world view on the dielectric response of glucose in solution, as outlined below, will support the further evolution and implementation toward practical noninvasive glucose monitoring solutions.
Millions of individuals and families live under continual exposure to threat such as protracted socio-political conflict or community violence facing current and future danger. The construct of continuous traumatic stress (CTS) was suggested as a supplement perspective for the understanding of the specific impact of living under both current and realistic future threat. Yet, the unique parameters, utility, and validity of the construct CTS are underexplored.
